A Plan for Transportation

We need to implement a multi-prong strategy built on research evidence that provides transport-convenient choices for all ages, abilities and incomes. I have very clear plans to help navigate the city through this challenge.

Short Term Initiatives

It is possible to accommodate growth by innovative system-efficiency technology and sustainable budget approaches. We need to focus our resources on moving people in the most effective way possible, instead of doing the same thing and expecting different results.

  • Establish clear City plans for housing, climate change, transport and growth
  • COMPASS for outlying Black Mountain, Gallaghers, Kettle Valley, Wilden, Clifton, Magic Estates
  • Include OVER PR, SMARTer Growth, CoHousing considerations (eg. station locations) in Kelowna and adjoining communities official community plans
  • Encourage Cycling: In-school community service learning bike rodeos via UBCO students; coloured bike lanes; protected bike lanes
  • Plug into and connect UBCO students, researchers to City staff on research and teaching opportunities - realize synergies to use innovative ideas and science-based evidence to address City issues in most efficient and timely ways
  • Continue to pursue my Hydrail, cycling, housing research at UBCO towards industry partnerships in BC, as well as the Provincial Government, to grow local jobs/industry in high-tech

Long Term Goals

My experience tells me that we need to continue to expand seperated active transporation networks, so that we can reduce congestion by not having to drive to shop, commute and recreate. Active transport networks take minimal space, provide multiple health benefits, and provide cost-effective alternatives to the City.

  • Provide over 20 years of engineering experience to City Council and help solidify our Official Community Plan
  • Engage teams to plan, design and pursue P3 financing to realize OVER PR within 20 to 30 years
  • Hydrail demonstration projects on Vancouver Island, Fraser Valley, Okanagan Valley
  • Improve our transit system from just a highway service between UBCO and West Kelowna, and expand it in our community activity nodes
  • Invest in great sidewalks to seniors on scooters, moms with strollers, and kids on training wheels to support the mobility of our young and aging populations
  • Revitalize BC Transit services to integrate with OVER PR, linking all Okanagan Valley communities like a 'string of pearls' with USA tourists and rest of Canada
  • Complete communities in outlying areas to 50% of jobs/services in those areas
